Ramón López Velarde (1888-1921) was a Mexican poet, journalist, and diplomat. He is considered one of the greatest modernist poets of Mexico, known for his lyrical and melancholic style. Some of his most famous works include "La Suave Patria" and "Zozobra."
López Velarde was born in the state of Zacatecas, Mexico, and studied law in Mexico City. However, his true passion was poetry, and he began publishing his first poems in newspapers and literary magazines. He became associated with the literary group known as the "Los Contemporáneos," which included other influential Mexican writers such as José Gorostiza and Octavio Paz.
In addition to his poetry, López Velarde was also a journalist and wrote for various Mexican newspapers. He later served as a diplomat, representing Mexico in France and England.
López Velarde died at the young age of 33 from complications related to diabetes. His poetry and legacy continue to inspire and influence Mexican and Latin American literature today.
